Grant of Planning Permission - Yes! Received 20th June 2025
You probably knew this by now, but despite assurances from our Planning Consultants, it was not until yesterday that WMBC finally signed it off.
The committee had held a special meeting on Sunday 1st in anticipation of the planning grant, with the intention of getting things rolling. You will receive regular updates as things begin to happen.
I just want to remind everyone of the financial commitment we made to get the project off the ground at the end of 2023 after we asked members if they were interested in lending the club £5,000 to help. The estimated cost was £180,000 to be funded as £40,000 from the club, £100,000 from members as £5,000 bonds paying interest, and an interest free loan of £40,000. We went ahead on the basis that we had offers from members covering the £100,000, and subsequently we have been offered £45,000 by the LTA.
We will write shortly to those members who back in 2023 completed an expression of interest form offering to lend £5,000. The time has now come for them to pay up!
It is possible now that we have permission, there are other members who would like to join the scheme and this would be an enormous help; it would mean that we could go ahead with better access to the courts and the club house rather than push ahead doing the bare minimum to complete the courts.
We will send out another circular explaining the £5,000 bond scheme and it would be great if a few more would come forward.
At this stage I want to thank the committee for their support through this long planning stage and the members for keeping faith – here’s hoping the courts come on stream in the very near future.
