Racketball Report Week 10

The 57s opened up with a tricky looking tie against a very strong Neston 1. Without top order player Bob Mc and three others, we still put up a fight. Super Tom Clark took a 3-1 win against Jon Hunter at 1. Ged, Rob Wright, Seb and Tom Mairs also made a fight of it but couldn’t get any games over the line. 17-3 to Neston 1. There is always the return leg.

It is effort that we ask for, that is what we got. Brighter days ahead with a trip to Crosby next week. The 57s stand every chance of completing a very successful campaign as they look to complete the first half of the season.

Our Racketeers , seemingly on an away games tour, set out to take on Village Mixed. Jayne McGrath was first up with an away day debut. Two close games to start, one game each. It was clear from the gallery Jayne was the better play and as the confidence grew, so did the performance. A fantastic 3-1, well done Jayne. Flying the flag for all the ladies that Racketball at Heswall.

I was up next, frittering away game points in the second game and ultimately, not getting anything against a very good opponent. Thankfully, we had plenty to come with Squash Captain Paul Smith easing to a 3-0 win at 3. Matt Stapo then looked all the number 2 as he beat current Merseyside Over 60s champion Mike Fleming 3-0 and seal the match win.

Finally, Peter Barton then came on court against the skilful Andrius Roos. As ever it seems with Peter, another comfortable win. We are very luck as a club to have Tom Clark and Peter, putting in wonderful performances in week in, week out. Thanks guys, we do appreciate you.

Player of the week is Jayne McGrath . There are pathways to both Racketball and Squash teams for those that are keen. It is the Teams, Mix ins, Leagues and Events that bind us all together as a club. Heswall Rackets Club is a fantastic place to be right now.

The Racketball box leagues are the strongest I have seen this month. If you're not involved, add your name to the box sheet for the new year. A few of events to look out for;

  • Karakal night next Wednesday 11th - there will be squash and racketball mix ins - please attend if you can.
  • Our Boxing Day courts are booked. Anyone wanting to run off that Turkey, 10:15 onwards for the traditional racketball mix in .
  • The fabulous Ann Ager has organised a social mix-in evening, with food in the bar on Wednesday 8th January.
