The Heswall 57’s opened up their first fixture of 2025 at home against Mark Evan’s Variety team. Variety made Heswall their home mid-season, moving from the village along with many new members. Variety needed some squad depth and therefore, we called upon our deep pool of racketball players to assist. Well done to Susana, Tom H and Liz Potter.
Tom Mairs was first up at 5, getting better all the time he came up trumps with a 3-0 win over Liz Potter. Seb then took over at 4 to beat the improving Tom Hulse 3-0. Tom has been taking lessons from our wonderful coach Roy Finney and it shows, do keep it up Tom! Ged was up next against the lively Susana Simoes . A tough ask for Susana’s introduction to team racketball, with Ged taking another win. Great to see racketball team debut’s at the club – it keeps the future bright.
The big hitters up next with Bob Mc playing Variety captain Mark Evans . Mark took the first game before Bob turned up the pace and came out with a 3-1 victory. Finally, captain Tom took on the athletic Dan Parker and concluded a good win for the 57’s with a 3-1 win. 20-2 to the 57’s . More to come from the Variety team.
The Racketeers headed down to Neston to play Neston 1, who were out for revenge after their defeat at Heswall earlier in the season. They put out a super strong side, headed up by Jon Hunter who beat our own powerhouse Peter Barton 3-1. Then it was time for a racketball team debut for Heswall club legend Mike Beecham who took on GLS and of course, all three points. Brilliant to have you Mike! The in-form Matt Stapledon then took on Nick Mason, producing game of the day. Lots of big hitting, lots of effort but unfortunately for Heswall, Nick pipped Matt 3-2 in a tight finish. Paul Smith then put up a good fight against Justin Hussey and I battled against a very good Jack Hussey but in the end Neston took this one 18-7.
A nod to Matt Stapeldon who we now expect so much from but Player of the week goes to the GOAT – Mike Beecham.
Another really positive week of Racketball at Heswall. This Saturday we have a doubles competition at 2pm, concluding before the mix in. All welcome to both.
Time to get on with the club competitions - get those fixtures arranged.
