Week 15 and 16
Week 15 was a Heswall derby, with the Racketeers sitting on their home streak and facing 57s.
Rob Powley playing 5 took on Tom Mairs with Tom making a flying start to take the first game. Rob then turned on the power and won a tight game 3-1. Kevin Ferguson , looking to defend his 100% record took on Seb Gardiner in a clash that promised style v gile. Another 3-1 to the Racketeers, well done Kevin.
Ged Clark then took on the GOAT. Mike Beecham winning 3 - 0. I would like to add, Mike and his wife are expecting their first baby this week, best wishes to you from all here at Heswall Rackets Club. Bob Mc then took on the ever impressive Matt Stapledon with Matt recording a terrific 3-1 win. Top of the order was Tom Clark and Peter Barton . Very little seperates these two strong, top order players and the game went to 5 with Tom nicking it. Racketeers win 19-6.
Rob Wright continued his impressive season recording a 3-1 win against Paul Grannon , leaving the series 1-1. It's fantastic to see all the team players pushing one another and creating a great enviroment with ever improving standards.
Our Variety team faced a tough trip over to Champions in waiting LCC. With Andrew Breen sitting top of the order. Dan Parker took a game and valuable point before Mark Evans did likewise against LCC captain Jason Hopkins. Tom Hulse recorded his first point, taking a game against Sam Pryke. Well done Tom.
Week 16
Variety had yet another tough game, hosting Neston 1.
Mark Evans took on a disciplined G-LeSwain, who played some killer drop shots when given time and space to win 3-0. Stuart Hulse likewise struggled against Carl Hume and despite showing the better shots for the most part, was eventually out run by his opponent.
After a 'lively' start and first game against Nick Mason, Dan Parker settled down to his game and managed his victory really impressively. Nick made it as difficult as he could for Dan with his trademark attacking drives.
Stephen Harrison was up against Justin who played his usual fast paced, hard and low game which Stephen found difficult to counter. Tom Hulse was up against Jack and again found it tough against a much more experienced player. 18-3 win for Neston 1 .
Meanwhile, our 57's put on their wellies and heading down to the swamplands. Tom Mairs, Seb and Rob Wright took no prisoners in taking 3-0 wins. Mike Corran , back from honeymoon, felt the racketball love as he took another comfortable 3-0 win against Darren Reid. Leaving just Tom Clark to make it a full house, up against Andrew Potter. Tom never lets anyone down and took the game 3-2. A good 20-2 victory for Heswall 57s.
Finally, our Racketeers hosted Xavarians. Rob Powley and Kev Ferguson both took good wins at 5 and 4. Peter Barton and Matt Stapledon put in valient efforts against very strong opponents, both taking valuable games. The game, poised at 2-2, went to Paul Smith v Ian Noble. Despite 100% effort, Paul didn't manage the win this time against a very good opponent. Xavs taking the tie 15-8 .
Another full club night, lots of team action and more players wanting to get involved. Just 4 weeks to go.
