Jersey Racketball

A couple of weeks ago, Heswall sent our first ever racketball team overseas to Jersey. We had submitted the entry in September last year and we had very little idea what to expect.

EasyJet delayed our Friday morning flight until somewhere nearer mid-afternoon. A quick up and down, hop through the airport and skipped straight onto the mini bus sent to pick us up. The majority of games we played at St Clements sports club, St Hellier. A squash club surrounded by an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts and of course 5 impressive and well used padel courts.

We did play at Le Quinnavais sports centre, located in the west of the island on Saturday morning, before heading back over to finish our league at St Clements in the afternoon. We made the final of our division, but lost to the team we beat Saturday morning. The whole event had a great vibe and atmosphere, the racketball was played with a great spirit too. Lots of opportunity to watch very high level racketball in the top division.

Food was included on Friday evening and Sunday Lunch. Alongside live bands and DJ's. The only panic our team had was for the bar tab code! The island itself is beautiful, perhaps 30 minutes across and surrounded by idyllic covers and beaches. Look out at the club for our playing shirts, well matched up to the turquoise waters of Jersey. I extended my trip by a couple of days in order to explore the island and it was well worth it.

Our team was Bob McLoughlin, Ged Clark, Paul Smith, Chris Sheppard, Nick Hawkes and Brian Parker . Next year, we might take two teams or up to 14 players. I will firm up in September but please let me know if you're interested. Finally, I big thank you to Liz, Katie and the rest of the Jersey crew who organised the event. See you all next time.
