We are into the final stretch of the racketball season. The product of fielding two teams is becoming clearer, with more opportunities, we have seen standards rise. Fantastic to see and much, much more to come. Now we are three!
Our 57's took a trip to play at New Brighton v Mixed team. Tom now has the luxury of giving himself a well earned rest, knowing the strength was there in a very competetive squad. Paul Grannon opened up at 5, fresh from injury, earning a very routine 3-0 win. Seb Gardener stepped up to 4 taking a quick lead before getting pulled back and losing in the 5th to Jimmy Hough, 3-2. Rob Wright now at 3, continued a very impressive season with a 3-0 win against Andy Burgh.
Then came the ski legs duo with both Ged and Bob, fresh from the slopes, and no doubt the bars, in action. Ged beat tricky customer and Heswall member Mike Price, 3-0. Before Bob Mc finished off the job with a 3-2 win over the stylish Mike Flemming. 19-5 to Heswall 57s.
Racketeers hosted Neston Mavericks, out for revenge after losing to our 57s last week. Rob Powley in at 5, took a comfortable win against a willing John Campbell. Paul Smith at 4, fought back from losing the first game to win 3-1 against a sharp looking Darren Reid. Paul never lets us down and has protected me all season long, full of desire, effort and encouragment. I stepped up to 3 and played one of those young, fast and fortunately a bit loose - typle of players. A good 3-0 win over Elliot Sutton in the end. Helped by having 10 minutes with our wonderful coach Roy Finney before hand.
That left Matt Stapledon to play Andrew Potter at 2, serving up a wonderful 5 setter. With Potts fighting 5 match points to win the fourth 20-18 and taking the fifth. A great game for everyone involved. Peter Barton then took the headline slot and made short work of a blustery Phil Leach to win 3-0 and give our Racketeers a 19-4 wi n.
Our Variety team travelled to Crosby. When your luck is out, it's out. Crosby fielded by far their strongest side of the season. It didn't stop Dan Parker beating Jason Cunningham though, contuing a very impressive run. Mark Evans, Stephen Harrison, Tom and Stu Hulse didnt' make any advancement on Dan's 3 points, with Crosby winning 17-3.
I cannot give player of the week to Potts. It goes to all three of our headline acts, Bob Mc, Peter Barton and Dan Parker. Well done!
We have our club fianals night is at the end of next month, so please play your games!
