Message from Ladies Captain Jools Griffiths

HESWALL LADIES SQUASH TEAM
Flying high at top of Div 2B.


The Heswall ladies squash squad is at the top of division 2B and has been for the first half of the season with 117 points. We've played all of the matches with a full team of 5 players. We have lost 2 matches but gained several points from those two losses and have learnt to continue the mantra of winning.
The ladies squash section has 11 players playing for the one team. The squad rotation system is working relatively well, as it allows everyone to have a number of matches. It isn’t ideal but the system is used to hopefully keep as many involved & engaged in the matches. Not perfect, but we do our best & everyone steps up as needed. Well done to our squash squad & we will continue to go on & enjoy playing squash.


At the end of last season 5 players left for all sorts of different reasons: time constraints, family, personal commitments. These squashettes, were all in the 1st team. We hope they’ll pick up their rackets & rejoin Heswall sooner rather than later.


Meanwhile, Lucy Grattan is continuing to play squash at HRC. She turns out for the men’s teams & is continuing to play well. She’ll be getting ready to defend her Ladies Open Trophy during the early part of 2025 along with the other squashettes.

We are trying to rebuild towards two teams and the addition of Alexandra Hooper (jnr) made her debut at home v Northern C Crosby the first half of the season. Alex has recently been chosen to join the "Aspire North West" training camp for juniors. So, this is a certainly a step in the right direction for her and the future of team. There are other junior players who will hopefully be joining in the matches in the near future.


Our matches run from October to March on a Monday night. We run a mix in on Mondays when there are no matches. During the summer months we work to maintain & enjoy our squash, by generally having a mix in on Monday evenings 6.30-8pm.

I reiterate what Paul says, as a club, we want to be competitive we want to give the opportunity to all lady members and hopefully more junior's as well.
