Racketball Report Week 14

T he week started with our double’s competition – doubles is a really fun and relaxed version of racketball. Liz Potter and I went on a winning streak, beating Mike Walsh and Vicki Starkey in the final. Well done Liz, for carrying me and great to see some new faces.

Moving to the teams. Racketeers had a trickly looking away game against Karl Mullins’ New Brighton team, bolstered by new recruit Chris Munn. Straight in at 2 was Mike Beecham, off the back of a weekend birthday celebration – he continued he 100% win record taking down Mark Maddocks 3-2. Chris Munn then beat me in straight games before the In-form Matt Stapledon returned a 3-0 score in super quick time.

Peter Barton then played a high-quality game with the unbelievable Dave Loughlin and deserved more than the final result, with Dave coming out on top. That left our very own road runner – Kevin Ferguson to take centre stage. Brian Howarth taking up the role of Wile E Cayote for the evening’s spoils. Kevin chased everything down and despite a mini fightback from Brian, it was road runner who came out on top 3-1. Giving the Racketeers an impressive 14-9 win .

Our 57’s then hosted Northern Crosby who turned up a player short. Seb Gardiner made short work of his game to claim 3 points. Rob Wright then played yet another epic 3-2 game, with Crosby captain Steve Kyriacou. Steve taking the final set and some valuable points for Crosby. Paul Grannon, playing 2, took on first division squash player Reece Manion who started out some forty years Paul’s junior. A good performance from Paul, using all his skill and experience to win the game and match for our 57’s, 3-1. Bob Mc took centre stage at 1, with captain Tom Clark taking a rest. Alex Manion has a lot of speed and power but was no match for Bob who won the game 3-0. Very impressive and well done to the team. 57’s win 19 – 4. If you'd like to play Bob and other team players, come down to our weekly mix in Saturday 4:15 onwards. All are welcome.

Two good wins for the racketball teams. This week, we felt Bob Mc and Kevin Ferguson deserved praise and therefore both take player of the week . Fantastic - both of you.

The Racketball Open, Handicap and ladies open are all on the board. Please get your games arranged.

We have no live footage from New Brighton, Kev was too quick. However, below is an artist's impression of what happened...
